THREATS: Habitat loss and fragmentation, livestock grazing, water diversions, logging, road construction, genetic isolation, disease, and competition and hybridization with nonnative trout species
POPULATION TREND: Rio Grande cutthroat trout have been lost from more than 90 percent of their historic range and are now limited to small, isolated headwater streams. Only five fragile populations are secure from any threats.
