Action timeline

February 26, 2008 – The Center and Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect the Amargosa toad under the Endangered Species Act.

August 22, 2008 – In response to a Center challenge, the Bureau of Land Management required the organizers of the TSCO Vegas-to-Reno off-road race to redraw the race's route to avoid key Amargosa toad habitat.

March 11, 2009 – The Center and Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility sent the Fish and Wildlife Service a notice of intent to sue to force a response to our 2008 listing petition.

April 13, 2009 – To protect stream flow for the toad, the Center submitted to the Nevada state engineer 11 protests of water-right applications filed by the Department of Energy for groundwater withdrawals in the Oasis Valley basin northeast of Beatty, Nevada.

September 10, 2009 – The Service announced it was launching a full status review to determine whether the Amargosa toad warrants Endangered Species Act protections.

July 20, 2010 – In response to our February 2008 listing petition, the Service announced its determination that the Amargosa toad did not warrant protected status under the Endangered Species Act.
